How many teeth can a dental implant hold?

Wouldn't it be great if one dental implant could hold multiple teeth? Well, in some instances they can.

I'm missing two consecutive teeth. Can one dental implant be used?

In roughly 5-10% of dental implant cases, one titanium implant will support two teeth. The success of this depends on which teeth the implant is supporting and the amount of bone available. In this instance, a custom restoration that includes two fused dental crowns matching your natural teeth color and shape, will be placed on one dental implant. In order to be a candidate for this scenario, the supported tooth must be smaller than the dental implant or the forces of the supported tooth could cause the implant to be weakened and ultimately fail.

Once the dental implant is surgically placed and successfully fused to your jawbone, your a custom restoration is created that matches your remaining teeth. It is important to keep in mind that because of the higher fail rate (of the tooth NOT supported by the implant), this treatment option is not typically recommended.

I'm missing three to five consecutive teeth. How many dental implants will I need?

To successfully replace three to five consecutive teeth, at least two dental implants will be needed. Two dental implants will be surgically placed in the jawbone on either end of the vacated tooth sockets. Once healing is complete, two crowns will be placed on the implants and between one and three artificial teeth, called pontics, fit between the crowns, "bridging" the gap.

The results: a sturdy smile makeover that provides the beauty, function, and comfortability of natural teeth!

I'm missing multiple teeth in an arch. How many dental implants do I need?

In an ideal world, where money isn't a concern, one dental implant would support one tooth. But with new technology, called All on 6, a full arch of 10- 14 teeth can be reconstructed with 6 dental implants.

All on 6 dental implants are a superior alternative to traditional dentures. All on 6 implants are specifically designed to use six implants to replace all of your upper or lower teeth and anchor them together, kind of like a bridge.
